What is Tang Soo Do?

Tang Soo Do is an ancient martial art, which originated 2000 years ago in Korea. Tang Soo Do is a method of empty hand, foot, and weapon fighting based on scientific use of the body in self-defense. Tang Soo Do is based on the principles of yielding, circular motion and penetration. As a student you will learn to use your hands and feet in such a manner as to simulate actual combat with an armed or unarmed opponent. The techniques and philosophy are taught as they were in ancient times, although the system has adjusted to the modern lifestyle. Most of all, Tang Soo Do is designed to develop individual character, mental strength, integrity, and respect for other.

On the average, millions of people invest thousands of dollars and much into various health clubs in pursuit of better health. Achieving real “health” means not only physical conditioning, but improving psychological and spiritual attitudes. SELF DEFENSE - Ever since human history began, man has needed to learn how to defend himself; to protect himself, his family, and his possessions. Investing some of your time in studying a self-defensive system is indispensable insurance against the hazards of modern day living. You do not have to be strong physically to apply our principles of self-defense.

PHYSICAL FITNESS - Getting into shape is not just a luxury, but a necessity for maintaining good health. No experience or background is needed; we will start you off slowly at a beginner’s pace and gradually get you up into top shape safely.

MENTAL STRENGTH - Physical exercise is a proven method for the reduction of tension and stress. Students are trained to incorporate mental concentration, self-discipline and respect for others, not only in their practice sessions, but also in all aspects of their lives.

What can Y. T. Tang Soo Do offer my child?

Respect, self-control and confidence. These are traits of students at Y. T. Tang Soo Do. While being physically trained in self-defense, other significant improvements occur simultaneously. We stress physical and mental growth. Tang Soo Do goes beyond self-defense - it concentrates on the whole person. We build traits that will serve the student well in school and later in his/her adult life. Martial art as it is taught at Y. T. Tang Soo Do is an excellent supplement to a student’s formal education. We encourage our student to study hard at school while monitoring their academic grades and progress.

How often should I train?

Students normally attend two or three regular classes per week. Discuss your class schedule with your instructor.

How long will it take me to learn Tang Soo Do?

The Y. T. Tang Soo Do program is designed to start you out slowly, so that your mental and physical power will develop progressively. Some techniques are very simple; you will be able to perform them in a short period of time. Others may take months of years to develop. So do not try to run before you can walk. Be patient and come to class regularly. Remember, hard work will be the key to you success.

How much does it cost?

Compared to other professional service, our Tang Soo Do lessons are extremely reasonable. Currently, the month to month tuition is $75.00 per month. The actual monthly tuition decreases with the length of your commitment. We offer discounts for additional family members.
